Program Details (Back to Programs)

Our Clinical-Developmental Psychologist at Summerville Family Health Team provides consultation, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for children, adolescents, and families experiencing a wide range of concerns.

Referrals can be made through the patient’s family physician, nurse practitioner, or any other member of the Family Health Team.  The identified patient must be rostered with Summerville to access Psychological Services.

A registered psychologist is a health professional with a Doctoral degree specializing in the study of behaviour, emotion, and mental health.  Psychologists complete a four year Honour’s Bachelor’s Degree, followed by seven to nine years of Master’s level and Doctoral studies prior to two practical training placements and one full-year internship under the supervision of a registered psychologist.  After completing their studies and training, psychologists complete an additional year of supervised practice prior to becoming registered to practice autonomously.  Psychologists in Ontario play a critical role in clinical health care, education, and health care research.  They work in a variety of settings including private practice, hospitals, community agencies, and school boards.
