Medical Exemptions
We at Summerville Family Health Team strongly advise that all our patients be vaccinated against COVID-19. The success of Ontario’s vaccine rollout, which has resulted in one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, is having an impact and continues to protect Ontarians against the virus.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons has advised us that medical exemptions, to the COVID-19 vaccination, can only be given in the following circumstances: "Generally speaking, there are very few acceptable medical exemptions to the COVID-19 vaccination (e.g., an allergist/immunologist-confirmed severe allergy or anaphylactic reaction to a previous dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or to any of its components that cannot be mitigated; a diagnosed episode of myocarditis/pericarditis after receipt of an mRNA vaccine)."
Please do not request an exemption if you do not meet these criteria. You may wish to contact your physician to discuss vaccination.

Mixed mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines
Both mRNA COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in Canada (Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna) have the same mechanism of action, have very similar side effect profiles and are highly effective against COVID-19 infection, hospitalization and death.

With the recent hospitalizations of infants with COVID, it’s important now more than ever to ensure that pregnant individuals get their booster doses to prevent risk of severe outcomes with Omicron.
